A Wilmington woman is facing felony charges for insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense. Za'kira Zaleaya Price, 23, of 9059 Senca Drive, is accused of submitting false medical bills to Geico Insurance related to an auto accident on June 13, resulting in a loss of $2,341, according to North Carolina Insurance Commissioner.
Price was arrested last Wednesday and released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. She appeared in New Hanover County District Court last Thursday. Commissioner Causey highlighted the broader effects of insurance fraud, stating in a press release, "Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime." He added, "It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums."
Individuals who suspect insurance fraud or have information about such activity are encouraged to report it anonymously to the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840, or toll-free at 888-680-7684 from anywhere in North Carolina.
