The Wisconsin Bureau of Consumer Protection is targeting scams that specifically affect elderly consumers. Recognizing that seniors are often the targets of nefarious con artists, the bureau is taking a proactive step to educate the community at an upcoming event. According to the Oak Creek Public Library's announcement, the session titled 'Common Scams & Frauds Targeting Seniors' aims to inform and safeguard our most vulnerable population.
Wisconsin’s Bureau of Consumer Protection will host a one-hour consumer fraud program for seniors on December 2, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Multi-purpose Room of the Oak Creek Public Library. The session will cover common scams, warning signs, and available recourse, and attendees will receive fact sheets and other resources. The event is targeted toward adults and will include opportunities for questions and dialogue. Registration is available through the library’s website or by phone, according to the City of Oak Creek Government.
The Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection handles complaint mediation, investigations, and enforcement actions in addition to offering public seminars to address consumer fraud.
