In a move that's both environmentally savvy and financially astute, the City of Woodstock has officially unveiled a new "cool roof" for its City Hall Annex. The eco-friendly rooftop, which was completed earlier this year, is not only about combating rising temperatures but also about reducing energy bills for the taxpayers.
According to a recent announcement by the city, the cool roof boasts an impressive solar reflectance rating of 0.76. That's just a fancy way of saying it bounces back a good 75 percent of the sun's rays, which, in the long run, means a cooler building and lower cooling costs for the City Hall Annex. And while the move might seem a drop in the bucket, it's a part of a broader sustainability push that has become increasingly more common in the construction industry.
Think less costly building permit fees for those ready to invest in energy-efficient alternatives. The city encourages builders and developers to connect with the Community Development Department for more specifics on materials and certification options.
