The City of Mesquite welcomed a new member to its City Council as Andrew Hubacek was sworn into office for District 4. The ceremony, held at Mesquite City Hall, marks the commencement of Hubacek's term, which is slated to run from 2025 through 2027. Hubacek's inaugural meeting with the full council followed the oath-taking earlier that evening.
Joining a council composed of figures such as Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. and Councilmembers Jeff Casper, Kenny Green, Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross, B.W. Smith, and Brandon Murden, Hubacek steps into a role previously held by Tandy Boroughs. Boroughs, whose service spanned eight years, had reached the end of his term limits, leaving the seat open after his final meeting, which was last Monday. This information comes from a recent announcement on the City of Mesquite.
Hubacek's election to the Council was secured after a runoff held on December 13, which decided the representation for District 4. The need for a runoff election suggests that the initial voting did not provide a clear victor by a sufficient margin, pressing the need for an additional round of ballots to confirm Hubacek’s position. The specific dynamics of the election, however, weren't detailed in the city's announcement.
