A late-night confrontation outside an Arlington bar turned deadly yesterday when a 33-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed in the 1000 block of Northeast Green Oaks Boulevard, police said. Officers arrested 31-year-old Daniel Munoz on a murder charge and detained a 32-year-old woman, Karina Fuentes, near the scene. The victim was pronounced dead where he was found in the parking lot and has not yet been publicly identified.
Police Say Late-Night Argument Exploded Into Gunfire
Officers responded around 1:50 a.m. after reports of gunfire outside the bar. Witnesses told investigators that a verbal argument in the parking lot escalated into the shooting, according to The Dallas Morning News. Sgt. Richard Coleman, an Arlington police spokesperson, outlined the timeline for reporters and said investigators found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the 1000 block of Northeast Green Oaks Boulevard.
Suspect Located Nearby With Firearm, Claims Self-Defense
Police say they found Munoz in a vehicle near the scene of the shooting and recovered a firearm from the back seat. Munoz told officers he fired in self-defense, as reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Fuentes, 32, was also in the vehicle and taken into custody after witnesses directed investigators to focus on the car, according to police.
Booking Details And Alleged Interference
Munoz and Fuentes were booked into the Arlington City Jail. Online records show Munoz is being held on a murder charge, while Fuentes faces a charge of interference with public duties, according to The Dallas Morning News. Coleman said Fuentes’ arrest stemmed from “her actions while officers attempted to detain Mr. Munoz.”
Warrant, Weapons Charge And Next Steps In Case
Detectives consulted with the district attorney’s office and obtained a warrant for Munoz’s arrest on a murder charge. Police say he also faces a separate unlawful-carrying-weapons charge, per reporting by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the man who was killed as investigators continue processing the scene and interviewing witnesses.
