Early birds at the airport have opted to arrive extra early to ease the stress of travel during this surge. Security wait times hit a peak at around 21 minutes at the North Checkpoint at about 4:30 a.m. but have since then alleviated. Inclement weather in parts of the country is another factor causing travelers to carefully monitor their plans. The airport has advised passengers to always check flight status and to aim to arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights, as per FOX5 Atlanta.

In a statement obtained by Atlanta News First, a man intentionally shot himself inside the airport last Sunday. The event follows another disturbing incident two months prior, where a threat to shoot up the airport was made by an individual with a firearm in his vehicle.

Deborah McDonald Pride, set to visit her mother in Dallas, told Atlanta News First, "I feel safe, but just be watchful. [I’m] just watchful for my surroundings and the people that’s around me." Similarly, Mr. Brown, a former military man traveling to see his grandchildren, believes it's important to always be aware of one's surroundings.
