As we bid farewell to the festivities of the holiday season, metro Atlanta and North Georgia are ringing in the new year, offering a myriad of celebrations from fireworks and live music to themed parties and family events. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, residents can choose from grand drone shows in downtown Atlanta, a special "Gilded Age" party at the Waldorf Astoria, or even spend New Year's Eve Havana-style at Lanier Islands.

Once the decorations come down, locals are looking ahead to giving back to the environment with the annual tree recycling program 'Bring One for the Chipper.' 11Alive reports that the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation facilitates this program across numerous counties. This collective act of post-holiday eco-consciousness kicks off on January 3, but multiple drop-off sites offer the community flexibility with extended ranges of availability.

Starting yesterday, residents can take their trees to various designated sites, including community centers and retail stores like The Home Depot. These locations are spread widely throughout the region, from Clarke Middle School in Athens to Sims Lake Park in Suwanee, ensuring accessibility for families eager to dispose of their Christmas trees responsibly. In places like Athens-Clarke County and Bartow County, the effort even extends into February, providing plenty of time for people to contribute to the health of their communities long after the final New Year's toast.
