Atlanta residents might want to carry an umbrella for the latter part of this week, according to an extended weather forecast that predicts showers and a potential thunderstorm. Starting tomorrow afternoon, there's an 80 percent chance of precipitation with southeast winds picking up between 5 to 10 mph, gusts could hit as high as 15 mph; rain is expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
Tomorrow night, those showers could escalate into a thunderstorm as the south wind shifts northwest post-midnight, hitting speeds of 10 to 15 mph and gusting to 25 mph — the chance of precipitation rockets to a full 100%. But the skies will clear up following the tumult, with Friday bringing sunny weather and a high of nearly 50 degrees, while gusty northwest winds continue to reign supreme, as reported by the National Weather Service.
The weekend forecast suggests a mix of clear skies and sunny days, with Saturday anticipating a high around 59 and nighttime lows settling near 40. However, Atlantans should expect a slight chance of rain Sunday, with a 20 percent possibility of showers and a high creeping up to 63 degrees, though increased cloud cover will drop the temperature slightly for the evening.
Going into next week, the chance of wet weather recedes but doesn't vanquish, hanging on at 20 percent Monday, when it's projected to be mostly sunny and hitting highs near 61, evening conditions might bring clouds and a minimal chance for showers the temperature will dip down to around 42 at night. Partly sunny conditions are forecasted for Tuesday, with the mercury topping out around 58 degrees.
