In Belle Vernon, following reports of a potential threat made against an elementary school in the local district, officials are taking precautionary steps to reinforce security. The Belle Vernon Area School District, on Saturday, informed parents that multiple Safe2Say Something reports indicated a threat posed to Rostraver Elementary School. These alleged threats surfaced on a social media platform or during a large group chat after school hours on Friday, as WPXI reported.
Dr. Timothy Glasspool, the district superintendent, has conveyed through a letter that the reports are being taken seriously and the Rostraver Township Police Department is conducting an investigation. To ensure students' safety and provide reassurance to the community, an increased police presence at Rostraver Elementary will be evident on Monday, a measure of security not uncommon in situations where threats have been identified. In the same vein, another threat concerning a firearm was reported at the district's middle school just days prior, according to the letter from the superintendent.
Parents have been urged to actively participate in reviewing their children’s online activities. District officials stressed the importance of "Open communication, supervision, and education" to cultivate "healthy and responsible digital habits" among students, as per CBS News. This call for vigilance comes at a time when the nature of threats to school safety is increasingly digital and anonymous, posing new challenges for parents and educators alike.
