Benbrook is getting a new restaurant park as MAD Concepts Group pairs its homegrown Jakes Burgers with the Tacos & Avocados concept in a shared outdoor space. The project is billed as more than just two places to grab a bite. Organizers say the development will center on a roomy yard with play areas, patios and full bars designed to keep people hanging around for events, family nights and laid-back weekends. City leaders and the developer say they hope the build will create jobs and help kick off longer-term redevelopment along the Benbrook Boulevard corridor.
According to a press release from the Benbrook Economic Development Corporation, MAD Concepts Group, working with Blue Plate Network, will build the two restaurants at the southwest corner of Benbrook Boulevard and Westpark Drive. Each building is planned at roughly 4,000 to 5,000 square feet, with a 1.5-acre shared backyard designed for outdoor dining and community events. The city describes the project as a coordinated redevelopment effort meant to finally activate a commercial corner that has sat quiet for years. Developers did not include a firm opening date in that announcement.
Design and brands
MAD Concepts Group lists the Benbrook project on its development page, presenting the site as part of a broader rollout of restaurant-park pairings around the region. Jakes Burgers, founded in 1985 and now operating roughly a dozen DFW locations, will anchor one side of the yard, while Tacos & Avocados handles the Mex-Tex lineup on the other, according to industry coverage. Jobs and local impact
The city says the development could create up to 150 new jobs and notes that the Economic Development Corporation spent years assembling parcels so the corner would be ready for construction, according to the Benbrook Economic Development Corporation announcement. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with MAD Concepts Group and Blue Plate Network to bring this vision to life,” EDC President Kent Williams said in the release. The statement casts the public-private partnership as a relatively modest investment that city leaders hope will nudge more private redevelopment along the corridor.
Part of a regional rollout
The Benbrook park is one of several restaurant-park projects MAD Concepts is building across North Texas.
