The search for 31-year-old Cory Dominic Cook, reported missing since last Friday, concluded tragically as his body was recovered from the Allegheny River in Manor Township. Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers confirmed the recovery took place at around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, as reported by WPXI. Cook's disappearance prompted a multi-day search, with conditions that were challenging due to the weather and water, which complicated the operation.
Evidence of Cook's location first came to light when a body believed to be his was located near Rails to Trails on Monday. This discovery led to a specialized recovery team being deployed. Cook, who was last seen on December 18 and not believed to have had his cellphone with him at the time of his disappearance, struggled with mental health issues, including paranoid delusions and hallucinations. "Police said Cook is reportedly suffering from paranoid delusions and hallucinations. He is considered to be in danger," according to an earlier report by WTAE. His rented car was found abandoned, reinforcing concerns about his well-being.
While the Manor Township Police Department extends its gratitude to all involved agencies for their efforts, the community likewise awaits further clarity on this incident. "The Manor Township Police Department said weather and water conditions made the operation difficult," WPXI cites authorities. The Manor Township Police Department expressed thanks for the patience and cooperation of the public during the search process. An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death, and officials have indicated that the investigation into Cook's death is ongoing, with more details to be released if appropriate.
