As Bostonians bundle up against the December chill, the city's weather patterns are shifting. According to the National Weather Service, today's clear skies and highs in the 30s will give way to increasing temperatures as the week progresses. Lighter winds are making the cold more bearable this morning, with the sun dominating despite the low 30s temperatures.
Tomorrow, following a cold morning, the forecast promises a warming trend with afternoon temperatures rising into the mid-40s. Given the dry conditions, this puts the city near its seasonal normals. Again, on Thursday, that trend is expected to continue as the mercury edges towards the 50-degree mark under mostly sunny skies.
An "ALERT DAY" has been flagged for Friday by Boston 25 News. The area is anticipated to experience a strong front, bringing rain with totals ranging between half an inch to one inch. Accompanying the rain, gusty winds are likely to reach speeds as high as 50 mph. Boston 25 News advises residents to "be sure to secure loose outdoor items, including holiday decorations."
The strong front on Friday, aside from offering highs in the 50s and a premature hint of spring, will be followed by a sharp return to colder temperatures as Saturday draws in colder air. Boston 25 News reports a marked drop to below-normal temperatures, effectively resurrecting the winter ambiance by week's end. In short, while the midweek warmth may offer a brief reprieve, the weather is set to remind Bostonians of the season's reality with colder air once again reasserting its presence.
