In a disheartening act of theft, the Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital in Brentwood experienced a break-in that resulted in the loss of pet ashes awaiting collection by their families. Yesterday, thieves bypassed cash registers and instead absconded with the irreplaceable remains of beloved family pets, as shared in a social media post from the Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital.

According to NBC Bay Area, the Brentwood Police are currently investigating the incident. Describing the perpetrators' actions, Practice Manager Zarah Mehr indicated that the intention seemed to be monetary gains but resulted in a different type of loss: "They stole pet cremation remains that were ready to be picked up by their families." The hospital notified all families affected by the break-in on the same day and has offered refunds for the cremation services.

In their surveillance efforts, Brentwood Police have secured footage capturing two individuals breaking into the facility and rummaging through the office. Crawling through a shattered glass door, having been thwarted in their initial attempt to take cash, they turned their attention to the urns. "All I ask is that whoever these two individuals were who took these pets' [ashes], to please return them," Mehr told NBC Bay Area
