A shooting in the Bronx has led to a fatality and increased concerns about safety in the area. According to Pix11, a 15-year-old, Eric Aitken, was shot in the chest at approximately 6:25 p.m. yesterday at 1219 Adee Ave, a NYCHA building. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. A 14-year-old boy was also injured in the incident, suffering a shotgun wound to his left arm. His condition is stable, and he is expected to recover.
The violence took place in the narrow hallway of an apartment building, a space usually meant to provide a buffer between the outside world and the safety of home. In an interview with ABC7NY, resident Leon Stafford explained that he was studying when he was abruptly interrupted by the sound of gunfire. As he tried to understand what was happening, he saw people running from the scene and noticed an attempt to break into his own apartment amid the chaos.
In the aftermath of the shootings, community members have expressed a mix of fear and frustration. Leon Stafford, a resident and security worker, voiced concerns about seeing young people lingering in the park late at night, describing it as unacceptable given the safety challenges in the area. He pointed out the presence of gangs, the gathering of youths, and the ongoing gun violence as significant issues.
