A Brooklyn man has been found guilty on multiple counts related to the sexual exploitation of minors. Billon McLeod faced a federal jury over allegations that accused him of heinous acts, including sexual exploitation of a child, along with attempted exploits and coercion directed at minors. The three-day trial concluded with a unanimous decision of guilt on all seven counts, according to an announcement from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York.

The jury's decision potentially binds McLeod to a grim destiny – a mandatory minimum of 15 years behind bars with the possibility of a sentence stretching to life in prison. U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Joseph Nocella, Jr., and the FBI's Assistant Director in Charge of the New York Field Office, Christopher G. Raia, delivered the verdict news. In a statement obtained by the U.S. Attorney's Office press release, they described McLeod as "a serial predator" who used social media as a tool to ensnare and manipulate "vulnerable minor girls."

Evidence presented during the trial showed that from approximately July 2024 to February, McLeod engaged with four underage girls, aged between 12 and 16, through applications like Snapchat and via text messages to execute his predatory plans. Emboldened by the anonymity afforded by the internet, he used deceit and emotional manipulation, masquerading at times as a teenager to build relationships before carrying out his abuses.

Under the guise of affection, McLeod sent his victims sexually explicit messages with the intent to lure them into sexual activity, some of which, he recorded. "Billon McLeod targeted minor girls on social media to coerce them into engaging in explicit conversations and sexual acts," disclosed FBI Assistant Director in Charge Raia, explaining the depths of the defendant's exploitation, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office. Moreover, the efforts of the FBI and the national initiative Project Safe Childhood, were hailed as key in bringing such offenders to justice and safeguarding young individuals from the dangers lurking online.

This prosecution comes under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice endeavor started back in May 2006, which aims to combat the rising tide of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Molly Delaney and Daniel J. Marcus, Assistant United States Attorneys, led the government's case, indicating the seriousness with which these crimes are addressed, and the collaborative effort of federal, state, and local authorities in the torment of child predators.
