The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Arizona Cardinals 20-17, ending a three-game losing streak and retaining their lead in the NFC South. NBC Sports reported that the Buccaneers’ defense played a key role, while quarterback Baker Mayfield, despite a left shoulder sprain, completed 18 of 28 passes for 194 yards.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles told the team’s official website, “It's finally good to get on the 'W' side,” referring to the hard-fought game, as reported by Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The win included a touchdown catch by left tackle Tristan Wirfs and a notable return from running back Bucky Irving, who contributed immediately after missing seven games due to foot and shoulder injuries.
Earlier, quarterback Baker Mayfield was listed as questionable due to an AC joint sprain but was expected to play, according to Coach Bowles, as reported by WFLA. Key defensive plays in the fourth quarter, including a fourth-and-two pass breakup by SirVocea Dennis, prevented an Arizona comeback. Meanwhile, Jacksonville’s Jacoby Brissett threw for 301 yards on 40 attempts for the Cardinals, but the team was unable to secure the win.
The Buccaneers, now holding an 8-4 record, will face the New Orleans Saints next, who currently have a 2-10 record. Wide receiver Chris Godwin contributed three catches for 78 yards, supporting the team’s offensive performance in the win at Raymond James Stadium. Quarterback Baker Mayfield emphasized a playoff-focused mindset moving forward.
