As the Burnsville city hall transforms, community members can take a glimpse into the future shape of their civic center. The latest project update indicates that interior renovations within the existing structure are making headway, with crews diligently working on the demolition and prep for the highly anticipated data room. The task involves dismantling ceilings, floors, and walls in the lower level, a necessity to weave in the modern veins of technology, as reported by the City of Burnsville.
On the exterior, the structure of the new addition is now clearly visible. Framing moved ahead in November, outlining the project against the skyline. A key milestone was the smooth connection between the old building and the new, made possible by removing the former exterior wall. The only minor setback has been removing tree stumps along 130th Street, a brief clash between natural and urban needs.
Concrete slabs have been poured on the lower level, with three out of four now setting the stage for new beginnings. And as if bracing for the unknown, masonry crews fortify the storm-shelter walls. The top of the structure will soon be cloaked under a new roof, as "roofing installation began on November 17," a clear sign of shelter and symbol of cover for the civic heart of the city, as per the City of Burnsville. The inclusion of in-floor heating pipes also promises a warmth that will creep into the corners of municipal operations.
The project timeline remains on track, with phase one expected to wrap up by September 2026 and the police department’s renovation set to follow immediately after. Planning for the 2026 election also reflects continued progress, as staff balance ongoing police operations with preparations for this essential civic event.
