In a twist that seems more suited to a holiday heist movie than a small-town crime blotter, the Butler County Sheriff's Office took to social media to announce a decidedly uncheerful holiday capture. Dubbing the suspect the "Grinch," the Butler County Sheriff's Office detailed the incident of a man caught in the act of stealing Carhartt clothing from a local Kroger in Liberty Township. The arrest was confirmed in a Facebook post that was published just in time to herald a less-than-merry fate for the suspect during the festive season.
According to the post by the Butler County Sheriff's Office, detectives were led to the 37-year-old suspect, Joshua Yockey, in the parking lot of an AutoZone in Middletown. Upon being identified, Yockey decided to quickly make his departure on foot, prompting a chase that ended with his apprehension by law enforcement. It did not take long for detectives to connect him to the prior theft, especially given Yockey's choice of attire at the time of his arrest—a Carhartt shirt, new with tags visibly still on.
Adding to the suspect's holiday woes, he was found to have several active warrants for his arrest. The Butler County Sheriff's Office did not hold back on their festive framing of the event, stating, "Stealing during the Christmas season definitely earns that title—and this individual fit the description perfectly." Their message concluded with a seasonal quip: "'Tis the season to put the Grinch right where he belongs… behind bars."
It has become a trend for law enforcement agencies to utilize social media to share updates and engage with the community. The Butler County Sheriff's Office acknowledged those who assisted in the case, extending gratitude via their Facebook platform: "Thank you to everyone who assisted us in capturing the 'Grinch.'" As the community prepares to celebrate the holiday season, this odd tale of crime and festive nicknames serves as a bizarre backdrop to the otherwise cheerful time of year.
