A late-night card game at a Southeast Side bar turned into something far uglier than hurt feelings over a bad hand, after police say a 35-year-old man was deliberately hit by a car in the parking lot early Sunday.
According to San Antonio police, the trouble started inside a bar on the 2400 block of Southeast Military Drive, where a dispute over a card game escalated into a physical fight shortly after midnight. Staff broke it up and escorted both men outside. While the 35-year-old waited for an Uber, witnesses told officers the 41-year-old suspect left with a family member, got into a white Toyota Corolla, and then drove into the other man.
Bystanders provided officers with the car’s license plate number. Police say they later tracked down the Corolla and arrested the driver, who was booked on an aggravated assault charge. The incident was reported around 12:27 a.m., according to police reports.

What aggravated assault means in Texas
Under Texas law, aggravated assault is a felony when the offense causes serious bodily injury or involves the use of a deadly weapon. A vehicle used to inflict harm can be treated as a deadly weapon, and penalties can range from years in prison to harsher punishment in more serious circumstances, according to the Texas Penal Code. How prosecutors ultimately charge the case, along with the extent of the victim's injuries, will influence potential penalties and any bond decisions.
Investigation is ongoing
SAPD says detectives are still investigating the parking-lot incident and had no immediate update on the 35-year-old’s condition, according to KENS5. No additional details were released as of publication.
