In a somber turn of events in Cedar Hill, a clash between police officers and a gunman drew the suburban calm into a night of disturbance and violence. The Cedar Hill Police Department, in a post on their official Facebook page, shared details about the aggravated assault and officer-involved shooting that occurred yesterday, leaving one woman injured and a suspect in custody.
The incident sparked into motion with the pressing anxiety of a 911 call at around 1:51 a.m.—a man's voice, edged with the fear for his family's safety, reaching out for urgent help. An adult female at the same location also called 911, and during her call, what sounded like a gunshot echoed in the background, foreshadowing the tense moments to come. As officers hurried to the scene on Sleepy Hollow Drive, they were met with a stark greeting—gunfire from within the residence.
Retaliating in defense, two Cedar Hill officers returned fire. Amidst the chaos, they managed to evacuate two women from the home, though one was not untouched by violence—she had sustained a gunshot and was later listed in stable condition at a local hospital. The officers themselves escaped injury, the Cedar Hill Police Department reported.
As the suspect holed up inside, an encompassing perimeter was deemed secure by officers, and the Southwest Regional Response Group's Tactical Team was called to defuse the situation. After a tense standoff, Dustin Hancock, 44, surrendered to the officers at approximately 3:36 a.m. Hancock, now facing multiple charges including Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Family Violence) and two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant, is currently being held at the DeSoto Jail.
