As we bid farewell to 2025 and usher in 2026, the community of Cherryville offers a series of festive events to commemorate the occasion. For families and individuals keen on ringing in the New Year within the embrace of community spirit, the Cherryville Branch Library presents a New Year's Eve Party. There will be "games, crafts, songs & more," as advertised on Gaston County's website, promising an inclusive celebration for "patrons of all ages" from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Wednesday.
In a unique Cherryville tradition, residents can witness musket blasts and listen to a New Year's chant, celebrating the eve with historical resonance. Starting at 10:30pm on Wednesday and stretching into the first hour of 2026, Main St. will transform into a venue for music, the drawing cheers of food trucks, and revelers gathered to partake in this time-honored celebration.
Those looking for more serene forms of celebration are not left out. Kings Mountain State Park has scheduled picturesque natural experiences to begin 2026. "Start the new year on the trails!" encourages the state park's website, inviting equestrians to "Enjoy a relaxing ride" amidst the park's scenic vistas. This tranquil encounter kicks off at 10am and includes coffee as well as morning refreshments for early birds wishing to "warm up, and catch up with friends" before the ride on Thursday.
Additionally, hikers can embark on the annual "First Day Hike," a 5.6-mile journey from the CCC Bathhouse Trailhead at Kings Mountain State Park to Crowders Mountain State Park. This moderate hike promises a beautiful trail view, with the added convenience of a shuttle to return participants to their starting point. All are welcome, and the hike commences at 10am, Thursday, with only the regular park admission to be paid.
On a side note, Gaston County Offices will observe the holiday spirit by closing doors on Thursday and Friday, resuming regular service following the celebrations. For those interested in participating in these events, or for more details, they are encouraged to visit the Gaston County website.
