
The achievements of 14 Youth Commissioners from the Clayton County Office of Youth Services were in the spotlight as they participated in this year's Youth Assembly Conference, an initiative spearheaded by Georgia's Center for Civic Engagement. The Conference, designed to immerse students in the legislative system, offers a platform for future leaders to sharpen their public speaking skills and engage in impactful debates on statewide issues, acting out governmental and community service roles.
Clayton County Office of Youth Services Administrator Ciara Dunn, in expressing pride for their exemplary conduct, said, "These achievements are not only a reflection of their hard work and dedication, but also the bright future each student represents for Clayton County, where the world lands and opportunities take off!" as reported by the Clayton County News. Among the notable Youth Commissioners, Autumn Thompson and Robert Roc made it to the final round of the Appellant Court debate, while Zairah Moses and Daniella Akinwande were awarded for the Best Appellee Brief, showcasing their prowess in legal writing and argument development. Additionally, Morgan Baxter and Maliah Harris distinguished themselves as lobbyists, navigating legislative intricacies over extended hours.
Further commendations were in order for leadership roles within the conference. Youth Commissioner Jeremiah Janvier was hailed for his service as Speaker Pro Tem and maintained his stride in the Legislative Chambers. According to Clayton County, Aidan Brooks received honors as Chief Justice in the Appellant Court while Jerel Clark's role as an Associate Justice was essential in bringing fairness and integrity to the processes.
