The Clayton Police Department responded to 370 calls for service between Monday and Sunday, including nine vehicle crashes. Notable incidents during this period included a shuttle bus crash, a package theft, a warrant arrest, and a shoplifting case.

According to the weekly police incident report, a shuttle bus was struck in the rear by another vehicle while stopped at a red light on the 6300 block of Forsyth. No injuries were reported in the incident. Separately, a package theft occurred at a Central Business District apartment complex last Saturday evening. Surveillance footage shows a woman entering the building’s vestibule and taking several packages before leaving in a Chevrolet Cruz. The investigation into the theft is ongoing, as reported by the City of Clayton.

During routine traffic enforcement, officers also encountered more serious matters. A man was taken into custody after a traffic stop for an expired temporary license plate led officers to learn that he had an active warrant related to a previous domestic assault charge. He is expected to face court proceedings for both the traffic violation and the outstanding criminal matter.

Other reported incidents included a hit-and-run in which a man’s vehicle was struck by an SUV as he opened his driver’s door, as well as an attempted shoplifting case in which a woman tried to leave a CVS with unpaid merchandise before being stopped by an officer. Police also responded to a pedestrian-involved accident where a driver, whose view was reportedly obstructed by sun glare, struck a pedestrian who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. In a separate case, officers are seeking two men accused of taking packages in the Moorlands neighborhood. The individuals were seen going from building to building and loading items into a silver Honda before leaving the area.

Additionally, officers responded to another vehicle collision at the intersection of Big Bend and Clayton, where a wrong-way driver was suspected of impaired driving. During the investigation, police found unidentified capsules inside the vehicle. The substances have been sent to a laboratory for analysis, and the driver may face a possession of a controlled substance charge pending the test results.

Officers responded to the police station on Sunday afternoon after a pedestrian reported finding an Apple Watch. When they arrived, the individual had already left the watch in the police department foyer and departed. The watch is now being held for safekeeping.
