Cobb County residents and stakeholders are gearing up for a significant phase in the development of the area's future as the county embarks on its 2026 Comprehensive Plan and Future Land Use Amendments. The county's vision, policy goals, and a roadmap for development over the next two decades are poised to take shape, moving from the drawing board to the realm of public discourse and decision-making.
The plan, as put forward by the Cobb County, outlines a variety of needs that should be addressed, ranging from housing and transportation to economic development and natural resource protection. In revising the Comprehensive Plan, an annual plan amendment process allows for smaller adjustments to be made, ensuring the policies and maps reflect the Board of Commissioners' direction due to rezoning actions or other inputs including from the Planning Commission and the community at large—although, before making it to the final public hearing, staff members pour over the changes to proposals.
This year's amendment process, which began in October, is culminating soon. Public hearings are on the horizon with the Planning Commission's meeting set for January 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM, and the Board of Commissioners' following suit on January 20, 2026, at 9:00 AM. These meetings promise to be crucial platforms for public participation, inviting comment and critique as the community weighs in on the plan that will inevitably shape the trajectory of Cobb County's growth and change.
