In an effort to provide legal assistance to those in need, the Coconino County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) will host a warrant resolution event aiming to help individuals deal with outstanding warrants and court issues. Set to take place on Thursday, Dec. 11, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. MST at the Leupp Chapter House, the "Justice Bus" event is meant to enable community members to clear their legal hurdles without the threat of arrest. The event, according to a recent announcement, will feature judges and court staff assisting with warrants from various local courts, including Coconino County Superior Court and city courts of Flagstaff, Fredonia, Williams, and Page.
The Justice Bus will also offer more than just warrant solutions, reported to bring together a slew of community-based resources. These services range from victim rights information to workforce assistance. Besides legal advice, attendees can expect to find resources like Narcan distribution, opioid education, AHCCCS eligibility screenings, mental health service information, and voter registration booths. In a statement, CJCC Director Dianna Kalandros highlighted the importance of the event: "This event is about reducing barriers and helping people take positive steps forward." By coordinating efforts with courts and community services, Kalandros notes that they hope to assist individuals in resolving legal issues and accessing vital support for long-term stability.
The Justice Bus initiative represents a tangible action taken by the CJCC to reach the more remote and often underserved parts of the vast Coconino County. Recognizing the challenges posed by the geographical diversity and rural sprawl, this event is an embodiment of the council's commitment to inclusivity. The event is free and open to the public, with an invitation extended particularly to those harboring outstanding warrants. The CJCC encourages these individuals to attend and take a step towards resolution.
