A fatal collision between a vehicle and an electric scooter took a life in Charlotte's Steele Creek Division recently, throwing the community into a state of mourning and raising questions about road safety. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) reported that the incident occurred near the 6900 block of Nations Ford Rd. The electric scooter's rider, 47-year-old Timothy Medina, was found unresponsive and was pronounced deceased by MEDIC at the scene.
According to the CMPD's press statement, the crash took place last Friday. The Dodge Challenger, with driver Terence Sharod Pegues Jr., 26, and passenger Rayonta Mondreas Rose, 25, was involved in the collision. Both occupants of the car were wearing their seatbelts and did not sustain injuries.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, along with members of the DWI Task Force and Motorcycle Unit, were on the scene to conduct the investigation. The physical evidence was collected by Crime Scene Search (CSS) personnel. The CMPD has stated that speed and impairment did not seem to be factors for Pegues Jr. However, it is still undetermined whether impairment played a part in Medina's riding at the time of the accident, as toxicology results are pending.
The loss of Medina has been communicated to his family as officials continue to delve into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The CMPD is reaching out to the public for any additional information and witnesses that could aid in the investigation. Detective Pressley can be reached at 704-432-2169 ext. 2, and anonymous tips are welcomed through Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or via their mobile app and website, the CMPD mentioned.
