New York City's Central Park is home to a variety of wildlife as well as scenic areas. Earlier this month, a coyote was seen walking across the frozen surface of Turtle Pond following a snowstorm. The event was recorded by photographer Michael Silverstone and shared on social media.
According to ABC7NY, Silverstone stated that the coyote was wild rather than a domestic pet. He also commented on the variety of wildlife that can appear in the city. The sighting of a coyote walking across a frozen pond highlights the presence of wildlife within New York City.
Central Park provides a habitat for various wildlife, including a small population of coyotes that have adapted to the urban environment. These wild canids generally avoid humans and rarely cause conflicts, though they are sometimes seen by park visitors.
A pair of coyotes, nicknamed Romeo and Juliet, are frequently seen near the Delacorte Theater, according to FOX 5 New York. The theater is known for its annual Shakespeare in the Park performances. Photographer Michael Silverstone said that he was relieved to confirm the animal was a wild coyote rather than a domestic pet.
