In an effort to fully align with Texas's largest cities on public health measures, the City of Dallas has enacted a vaping ordinance that integrates electronic smoking devices into the existing smoking ban. Effective yesterday, according to a bulletin from the City of Dallas, businesses and individuals had a grace period of one year to prepare to fully adopt this ordinance that aims to protect residents from secondary exposure to vapor emissions.

The Dallas City Council, the same body that passed the ordinance exactly a year prior, is now seeing the fruits of its legislation. Liz Cedillo-Pereira, Dallas City Assistant City Manager, told the City of Dallas that "I am proud of this effort to keep the air cleaner for all of us. The largest cities in Texas are now aligned to protect people at work as well as the public from secondary exposure to potentially harmful substances. It's time to comply." This alignment is a significant move that again highlights Dallas's commitment to environmental health.

Under the new rules, no one will be allowed to vape in indoor and enclosed spaces, within 15 feet of building entrances, or on park properties. This change simply adds vaping to the list of prohibited activities in areas where smoking has already been banned. Notably, there are no new locations that have been added to the list of restricted areas, ensuring that the transition for residents and business owners is as seamless as possible.
