The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) has opened the Waialua Bar & Cafe in Terminal 1, offering travelers local Hawaiian flavors inspired by Waialua, a district on O‘ahu’s North Shore known for its agricultural history.
The Waialua Bar & Cafe offers a variety of fresh sandwiches, pastries, cocktails, mocktails, and local craft beer to suit every taste. Travelers can enjoy breakfast options like the Cranberry, Egg, and Gouda on a butter croissant or lunch items such as the Harissa Grilled Cheese. HDOT Director Ed Sniffen said the cafe responds to travelers’ requests for more local food that reflects Hawai‘i’s tastes and culture.
The cafe’s bakery offers freshly baked items, including guava Danishes, coconut pineapple tea bread, and leek parmesan bistro pastries. Its cocktails feature Hawaiian ingredients like pineapple and macadamia nuts combined with local spirits. The focus on authentic Hawaiian flavors reflects HDOT and HMSHost’s effort to showcase the islands’ culinary culture.
According to the Hawaii Department of Transportation, HMSHost and HDOT are partnering with local chefs to expand dining options at HNL, as well as Kahului and Līhu‘e airports. “Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is a place where visitors from around the world expect to experience Hawai‘i the moment they arrive,” said HMSHost VP Anthony Alessi. The community looks forward to the debut of these new dining ventures.
