A Decatur woman has pleaded guilty in connection with the 2022 shooting death of her husband, a case that has highlighted domestic violence issues. Iesha Zenobia Harmon, 45, entered guilty pleas on Monday, according to DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston. Harmon faces charges of Voluntary Manslaughter, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
According to the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, police responded to a 911 call in the early morning hours of September 19, 2022. They were dispatched to a residence on Charleston Terrace, where they found 44-year-old Shedrick Harmon with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Iesha Harmon, who had made the emergency call, initially insisted that she had accidentally shot her husband and maintained that there had been no dispute at the time of the shooting.
Text messages and statements from friends and family suggested a history of violence, substance abuse, and infidelity in the couple's relationship. They indicated that Iesha Harmon had threatened her husband with a firearm on multiple occasions. This pattern of behavior contributed to the charges and Harmon's guilty plea.
Judge Courtney Johnson of the DeKalb County Superior Court sentenced Iesha Harmon to 30 years in prison. The prosecution team, including Senior Assistant District Attorneys Ashley Johnson and Miriam Broussard, along with other legal and investigative staff, secured the conviction. Detective Wright of the DeKalb County Police Department led the investigation that helped establish the events leading to Shedrick Harmon's death.
