As temperatures are expected to plunge, DeKalb County has made the decision to open multiple warming centers to ensure residents can stay safe during the freezing conditions anticipated today and tomorrow. According to a statement on the county's official website, the centers are set to open at 6:30 p.m., providing necessary refuge for those most at-risk during this period of harsh weather.
Directly addressing the needs of the community, the county has contracted Frontline Response International to operate services during these extreme weather conditions. Individuals in need can expect to receive not just shelter but also hot meals, bedding, and access to case-management services. To further assist residents, Frontline Response International will be coordinating transportation routes to facilitate access to these warming centers. The initial pickups for these services are planned to be completed by 7:30 p.m., with final sweeps set to continue until 10 p.m.
The warming centers are located across the county and include key locations such as the Frontline Response International headquarters itself, St. Vincent de Paul in Chamblee, Mason Mill Recreation Center in Decatur, and the Exchange Park Intergenerational Center, also in Decatur.
Committed to ensuring residents can easily reach the warming centers, DeKalb County has publicized a detailed transportation pickup schedule. Starting from 6:05 p.m. at the North DeKalb Senior Center and reaching the Golden Door Warming Center at 7:30 p.m., pickups are scheduled to quickly ferry those in need to warmth. The full schedule, outlining all routes and pickup times, is readily available on the DeKalb County website for residents to plan their travels accordingly.
The four transportation routes cover a wide swath of the county, ensuring those far and wide have the opportunity to safely reach the warming centers. Residents can utilize stops from the North DeKalb / Chamblee/Tucker area all the way to the South Central / Memorial Dr / Wesley Chapel locations.
