
A 58-year-old District man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder of his former partner, whose body was discovered in a dumpster at the Hechinger Mall, Northeast Washington D.C. Richard Dyson was convicted for the killing of 62-year-old Donnella Bryan, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Dyson's plea of guilty to second-degree murder came in October following the charge. According to the government’s evidence, Dyson attacked Bryan on April 15, at the Press House Apartments, where he fatally struck her in the head, and suffocated her using a sock, law enforcement later purchased a large container from Home Depot, to dispose of the body with the assistance of an unknown accomplice. Bryan’s remains were found on April 19.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing, commending the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department in the investigation. Pirro recognized the work of her team, including Paralegal Specialist Grazy Rivera and Victim/Witness Advocate Karina Hernandez. Additionally, she lauded Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony Cocuzza for his role in prosecuting the case.
Since his arrest on June 11, Dyson has remained in custody as the case concludes.
