Heads up to residents and visitors of Douglas County: the courthouse and all county admin offices are taking a short winter break for the Christmas holidays. That's right, if you were planning to get any paperwork done or had business to attend to at the Douglas County Courthouse, you'll need to put those plans on ice from December 24 through December 26. The closure, according to a Douglas County government announcement, is in observance of the festive season, with doors set to reopen and normal business resuming on December 29, 2025.
While the courts and admin buildings will be locked up tight, there is one glimmer of hope for those who've procrastinated on their holiday errands — the Tax Commissioner's Office isn't joining the rest of the bunch in the festive shutdown. If you're handling tax matters, mark your calendar for December 26, when the Tax Commissioner’s Office will be open, presumably to handle a last-minute rush of holiday fiscal procrastinators.
As the officials turn off the lights and step out of their offices, they're leaving residents with a bit of festive cheer. "We wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday," reads the warm closure note from the Douglas County government's announcement.
