The City of Dunwoody has secured a spot in the top-10 list of the 2025 Digital Cities Survey Award, honored by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) for its savvy use of technology. This recognition applauds cities committed to enhancing cybersecurity, governance transparency, and the promotion of digital privacy rights alongside digital equity. Dunwoody, with a population of 51,844, was particularly noted for its strides in transparency and community involvement.
At the award event integrated into the National League of Cities “City Summit” in Salt Lake City, Dunwoody emerged as a leading example amongst cities with populations of up to 75,000. Teri Takai, Chief Programs Officer at the CDG, shed light on the award's significance. "What stands out this year isn't just the technology, it's the focus on the impact on constituent services," Takai said. “These cities are applying innovation where it matters most: keeping people housed, making streets safer, and building community trust. They’re showing that when technology is guided by purpose, it delivers results that citizens can feel,” as noted by the city's website.
The CDG acknowledgement wasn’t limited to the abstract praise. It also detailed Dunwoody's practical achievements, such as the launch of an open checkbook, online records portal, and the use of SeeClickFix to streamline service requests. The city has also taken steps to keep its residents in the loop with new digital signage and a diverse mix of communication outlets.
Dunwoody’s approach to public safety has been futuristic, to say the least. The new Real-Time Crime Center stands as an testament to modernization, knitting together data from avant-garde sources such as Flock Safety drones, Live911, and ForceMetrics AI to sharpen situational awareness and response rates. “Being recognized nationally affirms that our efforts are making a difference here at home,” Ginger LePage, Dunwoody's Technology Director, lauded her team's efforts. She voiced her pride in the team’s dedication to leveraging tech advancements to serve the city's inhabitants better, as mentioned on the city's website.
The CDG has spotlighted the remarkable transformation of Dunwoody’s IT infrastructure. A significant overhaul of its network and a shift of major systems to the cloud were complemented by a citywide business resiliency plan to ensure uninterrupted services across various departments. "This award highlights how our commitment to innovation directly strengthens services for our residents," said Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton, as obtained by the City of Dunwoody.
