A tragic sequence of events in Dyer County has left a community shaken after a woman shot her husband and son before dying in a vehicular collision. According to the WREG, Sherry Darlene Lydon, 60, fatally shot her husband, William John Lydon Jr., 60, while he was sleeping and critically injured her 24-year-old son, who was transported to the hospital.

After the shooting, authorities say Lydon fled in a Dodge Charger and subsequently collided head-on with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 155 in an apparent suicide attempt, as reported by FOX13 Memphis. She succumbed to her injuries from the crash. The driver of the truck was not injured in the collision.

The Dyer County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) is in the process of piecing together what led to this string of violent events. They have made a note, that Mrs. Lydon had recently undergone surgery for tumor removal and was experiencing "night terrors, anxiety and sleep disturbances," which are deemed as significant factors in the investigation, "These factors are being considered as we continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event," said the sheriff's office in a statement obtained by WREG.

"This is an incredibly tragic situation that has affected our community deeply," Sheriff Jeff Box told Local Memphis. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lydon family during this difficult time, and we ask for your continued patience as we navigate this investigation." The Lydon son remains in critical condition following the incident.

The DCSO has not indicated any ongoing threat to the public, and both crime scenes from the shooting and the crash are still active. With the case still in its early stages, the DCSO has encouraged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
