The City of Seattle has welcomed a new face into its City Council as Eddie Lin was sworn in today to represent District 2. Lin, with a background as a city attorney, emerged victorious in a special election last month and assumed office promptly after the results were certified on November 25.

"I am incredibly honored to represent the south end in City Hall. Working families are struggling, but we have an opportunity and responsibility to decrease the cost of housing and childcare, improve access to fresh food, and provide a safe, nurturing space for students in Seattle schools," Lin said. His term runs through 2027, and he plans to focus on the needs of families, immigrants, refugees, and healthcare seekers, according to the Seattle City Council.

Lin spent six years at the Seattle Office of Housing, contributing to rental and homeownership investments across the city. His experience may guide his approach to housing issues in District 2, which includes Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, Chinatown-International District, Columbia City, Mount Baker, Yesler Terrace, and Rainier Beach. Lin is also the son of a Taiwanese immigrant and grew up in Seattle's south end.

According to the Seattle City Council, member Joy Hollingsworth (District 3) said, "Our City will benefit from his perspective as a former city attorney and his instrumental role in securing housing investments." Councilmember Alexis Mercedes Rinck (Position 8) added, "The people of District 2 deserve a dedicated leader who will work tirelessly to address affordability and build a city that works for all–and that’s exactly what they can expect from Councilmember Lin." Lin fills the seat left vacant by former Councilmember Mark Solomon earlier this year.
