El Paso Community College is set to honor a cherished educator, Ms. Cindy Salcido, during its Fall 2025 commencement ceremony for the Respiratory Care Technology Program. As reported by EPCC News, the tribute will coincide with the graduation of the largest cohort in the program's history, numbering 21 students.

In a display of solidarity and remembrance, the graduates, along with faculty members, will don handcrafted flower pins, a poignant salute to the late instructor. The flowers, arranged by Clinical Coordinator Ashley Becker and adorned with ribbons provided by student Yvonne Muñoz, were donated by faculty member Ana Guerrero. This symbolizes the indelible mark left by Ms. Salcido on her students and colleagues alike.

Ms. Salcido, who passed away in early 2025, had been instrumental in navigating the challenges presented during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to EPCC News, she supported students through the creation of virtual labs and hands-on skill development, providing them with crucial mentorship and heartfelt support. Known for her contagious smile and motherly concern, she often encouraged students with the words, “Come on, do not give up, we will do this together."

Reflecting on the dear loss, Program Coordinator Maria Bailey highlighted the resilience and unity of the class mentored by Ms. Salcido. “This class demonstrated resilience, professionalism, and compassion throughout the year," Bailey said, as per EPCC News, stating, “Despite the difficult loss of Ms. Salcido, they supported one another and exceeded every expectation." She praised the students for embodying the values their mentor stood for, even as they prepare to take national examinations that will usher them into their future careers as respiratory therapists.
