Emergency repairs are slated to commence on State Route 410 in Enumclaw, with construction potentially starting as early as Monday, Dec. 22. This response arrives after SR 410 suffered significant damage near milepost 26, where Boise Creek's floodwaters eroded the eastbound lane. According to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), contractors operating under an emergency contract will work nonstop to rebuild the foundation and repave the road surface, aiming to restore full travel in the eastbound lane.

Earlier this month, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, WSDOT maintenance crews shut down the highway between Enumclaw and Greenwater—stretching from mileposts 25 to 43—due to water submerging the roadway. A temporary gravel bypass was set up in the westbound shoulder after the eastbound lane was closed because of severe erosion. "Once construction begins, contractors will work around the clock to complete the repairs and restore travel in the eastbound lane," WSDOT detailed in its announcement.

The route is currently reduced to a single lane, operating with a reduced speed limit and an indeterminate schedule for reopening to two-way traffic. Motorists, including those bound for Crystal Mountain with prior reservations, are being warned to anticipate delays and traffic congestion. This is a result of a temporary signal that is managing the alternation of single-lane traffic.

Travelers in the area may experience extra delays in both directions due to construction activities once repairs are underway. WSDOT has not provided a specific timetable for when the road will fully reopen to two-way traffic. Still, the ongoing work highlights the necessity of these emergency measures to ensure safe passage along SR 410. They encourage drivers to remain patient, stay informed about the progress of the repairs, and allow for additional travel time when passing through the construction zone.
