In a move that signals the end of an era in Somerville's dining scene, Daddy Jones Bar, a staple of Greek cuisine and community in Magoun Square, has announced that it will be closing its doors on December 20. The beloved local eatery, known for its Greek mezze and cocktails, will be saying farewell after 13 years of service. In a statement released on their Facebook page, the team behind Daddy Jones expressed a myriad of emotions but emphasized gratitude for the community's unwavering support.
Opening back in the fall of 2012, Daddy Jones quickly became a fixture in the neighborhood, taking over the former Lil Vinny's space located at 525 Medford Street; it was a spot where date nights blossomed into family celebrations and friends gathered to share news and comfort each other during tough times like the day of the Marathon bombings. Despite the sadness of their impending shutdown, the owners remain positive, reflecting on past memories which include the challenging times navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, and celebrations during snow storms, as shared in their heartfelt social media post.
The closure announcement has certainly stirred emotions within the community, with patrons reminiscing about their 'just one drink' nights that turned into memorable evenings. In anticipation of their closure, Daddy Jones Bar has planned a series of throwback nights from December 11 to December 14, and then again from December 17 until their final night on December 20, as a way to celebrate with old staff and loyal customers, as reported by Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants blog page.
