Roy Burgess, a 42-year-old inmate who escaped from Lincoln Correctional Center on Sunday, was captured in York County, South Carolina. Authorities from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, along with local deputies, located and detained him following his escape from the minimum-security prison in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
Burgess, who was serving a one-to-two-year sentence for larceny and scheduled for release in January 2027, has a criminal history of low-level felonies spanning nearly two decades, now including an escape from custody. His apprehension involved cooperation between multiple law enforcement agencies.
Secretary Leslie Cooley Dismukes of the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction acknowledged the rapid response from multiple agencies. In a press release, she stated, “We are grateful to our partners at SLED, York County, the NC SBI and the Gastonia Police Department for their assistance and a quick resolution to this escape.”
