
A fatal incident last night resulted in the closure of all northbound lanes on Interstate 295 at the Dames Point Bridge. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported just before 8 p.m. that responders were on the scene addressing injuries and at least one fatality, as stated on the Florida Highway Patrol website, according to News4Jax.
The incident caused significant traffic delays, with vehicles at a standstill at 8 p.m., according to Florida Department of Transportation cameras and cited by First Coast News. Delays extended beyond the bridge area, and motorists were advised to use Merrill Road as an alternate route while the scene was cleared and investigated. The northbound lanes remained closed for several hours.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department confirmed to Action News Jax that at least one patient was transported with life-threatening injuries following the crash. Travelers were advised to use alternate routes during the response.
By approximately 11 p.m., traffic began moving as lanes gradually reopened, indicating that the on-scene investigation had concluded.
