In an effort to provide warmth and safety for the homeless during the chilling winter nights, the City of Fernandina Beach Government has announced a partnership with the Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County. This collaboration will transform the MLK Jr. Recreation Center Auditorium into a cold-night shelter from December 29, through the morning of January 1.
According to the City of Fernandina Beach Government, the shelter, opening doors to the community's most vulnerable, will operate from 6:00pm until 9:00am during this period. Providing a haven from the frigid temperatures, the initiative is a response to the critical need for accessible shelter options. In the heart of winter, when the frost seems to seep into the bone, this resource becomes a sanctuary.
Residents who are in need of overnight protection from the cold can find solace in the auditorium, which is located within the recreation center, known for its community-oriented facilities. Here, they will not only find respite from the cold but will also have access to basic amenities, which can offer a semblance of comfort during these harsh winter nights.
