A late-night walk across a central Las Vegas crosswalk turned deadly Friday when a 25-year-old local man was struck by an SUV and left dying in the street while the driver took off.

Police say the man was crossing in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of East Flamingo Road and South Mojave Road just after 11 p.m. when a light-colored SUV hit him. He was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he later died.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the collision happened shortly after 11:10 p.m. A witness told officers the SUV continued west on Flamingo without stopping, and Metro’s Collision Investigation Section is now leading the case.

Police seek tips

Detectives are trying to track down the driver and are asking anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area to come forward. Metro’s Collision Investigation Section can be reached at 702-828-3786, and anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555, according to FOX5.

FOX5 also reports the victim was a 25-year-old Las Vegas man and that his death is the 151st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction so far this year.

Flamingo's safety record

Flamingo Road has seen numerous serious crashes this year, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The updates underscore the risks pedestrians face and the need for drivers and walkers to stay alert.

How to help

Investigators say that even seemingly minor details could help crack the case. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has video of a light-colored SUV heading westbound on Flamingo around 11 p.m. Friday is urged to call Metro’s Collision Investigation Section at 702-828-3786 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555. Small clues about the SUV’s make, partial license plate, or direction of travel could prove critical.

The crash remains under investigation, and Metro detectives are continuing to follow up on leads, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. This story will be updated as police release more information.
