In Dyer County, TN, former Correctional Officer Tyrell Wallace has been sentenced to a decade behind bars in federal prison after he attempted to smuggle drugs and a cell phone into the Dyer County Jail, as announced by Sheriff Jeff Box of the Dyer County Sheriff's Office on their official social media channel.
Following his October 2024 arrest, Wallace was found in possession of over 50 grams of methamphetamine, more than 100 grams of marijuana, 150 fentanyl pills, 3 grams of crack cocaine, 8 suboxone strips, a cell phone, and a loaded 9mm pistol with ammunition. His actions raised concerns about the safety of colleagues and the public.
Sheriff Jeff Box commented, “Today, justice has been served,” highlighting the breach of trust and the office’s commitment to integrity and accountability. The statement was shared on the Dyer County Sheriff's Office's Post.
The investigation into Wallace’s activities was led by the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, with support from the 29th District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District. Special recognition was given to Chief Investigator McCreight, and Investigators Jim Joyner, Carson, Defoe, and Caldwell for their efforts.
The sentencing holds the former officer accountable for his crimes and warns that smuggling contraband into prisons carries severe consequences.
