Former "Jeopardy!" champion Philip Joseph "Joey" DeSena, 43, from Raleigh, North Carolina, has been charged with two felony counts of secret peeping, allegedly having placed a camera in a bathroom and a bedroom to capture images without consent. As reported by WRAL, the Currituck County Sheriff's Office claims the incidents occurred on October 10, 2025. DeSena, who appeared on the game show in November 2024, amassing over $40,000 and later participating in the Champions Wildcard game in January 2025 for $10,000, turned himself into authorities and was arrested on December 1.
According to court documents, DeSena was released after posting a $5,000 bond on December 3. The conditions of DeSena's release required him to swiftly provide fingerprints and a DNA sample. DeSena's legal representation could not be reached to offer comment. WSBTV reports that a probable cause hearing was scheduled for December 10 in Currituck County Court on the allegations that DeSena "unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously" installed a camera with the intent to capture images of another without their permission.
The case has attracted attention due to DeSena's public profile as a former "Jeopardy!" winner. His November 2024 victory brought him into the spotlight, and his return in January 2025 for the Champions Wildcard Tournament secured his status as a familiar face to fans of the show. WXII 12 highlighted his game show winnings, which total over $50,000.
Further digging by media outlets into DeSena's background revealed that he once ran a YouTube channel called "ClanOfTheGrayWolf" under the name "Roo" from 2009 to 2015. Despite the unrelated nature of this past endeavor, the revelations come to further complicate the public persona of a man once celebrated for his trivia prowess.
