A former Tulsa youth pastor, Joseph Lyle Campbell, 68, has been indicted on charges of first-degree rape and lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16, according to an announcement made by the Multi-County Grand Jury. Campbell, who served at the Eastland Assembly of God Church back in 1984, allegedly committed the acts within his home garage and at the church premises, targeting young girls aged 11, 12, and 14 years old during that period. The charges levied against him bring forth decades-old allegations that are only now being confronted in the court of law, according to the Oklahoma's Office of the Attorney General.
Specific details of the indictment, published on Oklahoma's Office of the Attorney General website, suggest that between May 1 and October 1 of 1984, Campbell is accused of raping a girl around 11 or 12 years old and then there's the separate accusation of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at the church in a period from March 1 to December 1 within the same year, these incidences have only now come to light as the victims step forward to see justice served.
The indictment has stirred up commendation for the juror’s efforts in sifting through the evidence, with the Oklahoma's Office of the Attorney General stating “The crimes alleged in the indictment are horrific,” attesting to the severity of the allegations made. While stressing the intolerability of child sex predators, especially those who manipulate their authoritative position and victim's faith, the office vowed to pursue justice fervently for the survivors who have endured the trauma for so long. Campbell, who more recently held a pastoral position at Morningside in Blue Eye, Missouri, now faces legal scrutiny for past actions that have shadowed the lives of those involved.
