A Fort Worth truck dispute that turned into a shooting outside a neighborhood game room has now become a homicide case. Stevie Jones, 58, who was shot in early November while trying to get back a truck he believed had been sold without his permission, died at a hospital last Friday, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner and local officials.
How Police Say the Shooting Unfolded
According to Fort Worth police, Jones and his mother tracked the truck to a game room near East Berry Street and South Riverside Drive after a woman told the buyer she was the rightful owner, then signed the title over to him. Investigators say Jones still had a set of keys, used them to get into the truck and started to drive away.
Officers say the man who had bought the vehicle then came out of the game room and fired at the truck, hitting Jones. He was taken for treatment to John Peter Smith Hospital, where officers were first alerted to the case, as reported by Yahoo News. What began as an attempt to reclaim a vehicle quickly escalated into a life-or-death confrontation in the parking lot.
Victim Identified
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the man who died as 58-year-old Stevie Jones and listed Dec. 12 as his date of death, according to the Fort Worth Star‑Telegram. Officials said Jones had remained at John Peter Smith Hospital under treatment since the Nov. 8 shooting. Police have not announced any arrests in connection with his death.
Investigation Status
Fort Worth police say their Gun Violence Unit is leading the investigation but have not released suspect information or reported any arrests. The initial report, which laid out the dispute over the truck and the shooting outside the game room, was first published in November and later picked up by news aggregators. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Fort Worth Police Department as detectives continue to follow leads, and they say the investigation remains active, as reported by Yahoo News.
Jones’s death closes one chapter in a case that started as a tug-of-war over a truck and ended with a homicide file on a detective’s desk. Additional details were not immediately available. This story will be updated as investigators release more information.
