An early afternoon blaze in Akron resulted in the tragic loss of four dogs and the displacement of five residents from a home on Davies Avenue, as reported by Cleveland 19. The fire, which broke out in the kitchen of the two-story residence, caused heavy damage before Akron Fire Department firefighters were able to extinguish it.
After a call about heavy smoke at 789 Davies Ave., fire crews arrived to confront a significant kitchen fire while the home’s occupants had self-evacuated, avoiding physical injury even as their four pets succumbed to the smoke and heat. A release from Akron Fire mentioned that the five individuals are now without a home due to the incident, and the American Red Cross has been contacted to provide them with aid to manage the aftermath of the tragic event.
In their response to the fire, firefighters worked diligently to ventilate the home and check for fire extension inside walls, ensuring the complete eradication of the fire, as stated by WKYC. The quick action of the fire crews minimized potential further damage to the structure and surrounding properties.
A deeper investigation into the cause of the fire is underway by the Akron Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit, while support for the displaced residents is being coordinated by the Red Cross. The dogs were found deceased inside the home, which adds an emotional weight to the already difficult situation.
