The skies over Everett, Washington, will see one less airline come January, as FOX13 Seattle reports that Frontier Airlines will wrap up its service at Paine Field Airport. Citing customer demand, Frontier's flight offerings, which were initiated just this past June, will cease flying out of the airport starting January 5, 2026. The Denver-based carrier's brief stint at the airport included direct connections to Las Vegas, Denver, and Phoenix.
With the exit of Frontier Airlines having been a newly added airline to the regional airport, according to coverage by Simple Flying, Alaska Airlines is seizing an opportunity by bolstering their own offerings. They have announced a new nonstop route to Portland International Airport, coming in June 2026. This increment will become the ninth route for Alaska Airlines from Paine Field, already flying to cities such as Honolulu and Los Angeles. Despite the exit, Alaska Airlines continues to cater to travelers who once relied on Frontier's now-defunct service, serving similar destinations.
Frontier Airlines' pullback from Everett was confirmed on their official website, with all flights from Paine Field slated to end by early January. Frontier, a known A320 family operator, noted the competitive pressures from the nearby Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and possibly low demand as underlying causes for their departure, as indicated in an inquiry to Frontier Airlines by Simple Flying.
With Frontier clearing the runway, Paine Field's dominion falls squarely in the hands of Alaska Airlines. The carrier will continue its expansion, servicing multiple West Coast and sun destination cities. This network expansion is outlined in an elaborate map, which includes their current and upcoming routes as seen on Simple Flying. They are eager to fill the void, providing routes that were once exclusive to Frontier, such as Denver, which will no longer be available from Paine Field after their departure.
The shift in airline service was initially reported by HeraldNet and then echoed by CAPA - Centre for Aviation, noting that Frontier has removed all services from their schedule at Seattle Paine Field. CAPA, as its article indicates, is a comprehensive aviation and travel industry intelligence provider, further substantiating the market retraction of Frontier from the regional flight roster.
