Georgia's death row is counting down the days to its next scheduled execution. Stacey Humphreys, who received a capital sentence for the 2003 slayings of Cyndi Williams and Lori Brown, is slated for lethal injection at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison, as announced by the Georgia Department of Corrections. Five media witnesses have been selected to attend the execution: Kate Brumback from the Associated Press – Atlanta Bureau, Jennifer Peebles with The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jack Lindner representing Marietta Daily Journal, Doug Richards of WXIA-11Alive, and Michael Oder from WTOC.
As per the Georgia Department of Corrections, Humphreys has made an extensive last meal request that includes a medley of comfort and fast foods such as barbecue beef brisket, pork ribs, and a bacon double cheeseburger. Looking for solace at the end of a fork, Humphreys also asked for french fries, cole slaw, cornbread, buffalo wings, a meat lovers pan pizza, vanilla ice cream, and two lemon-lime sodas to wash it all down.
Humphreys' execution would mark the 78th in the state since the reinstatement of the death penalty by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1976. It would also be the 55th carried out by lethal injection in Georgia. The current death row population in Georgia is comprised of 32 men and one woman, awaiting their fate in the shadows of the justice system.
Located about 45 minutes south of Atlanta off Interstate 75, the Georgia Diagnostic & Classification Prison will open its media staging area to predetermined press members at 5:00 p.m. on the day of the execution. With a last meal that reads like a who's who of American fast food, Humphreys will potentially be joining the list of Georgia's executed while other death row inmates continue their wait. Directions to the prison were provided aligning with the logistical needs of the scheduled proceeding: Take exit 201 (Ga. Hwy. 36), turn left over the bridge and proceed approximately one quarter mile, with the entrance appearing prominently on the left.
